Exploring Identity in the Painters’ Traditional Artworks in Iran Islamic Revolution
Abstract
Art has always been a useful way to achieve the desired humanistic goals, and different ways used to contingently generate the artworks in any period. Art has been considered as a good strategy to express a wide variety of subjects, especially complex topics such as a revolution. Iran’s Islamic Revolution has been depicted in the paintings through which their creators showed how the revolutionary atmosphere affecting themselves at this time. In this period, many artists have produced artworks which represent themes including, martyr, martyrdom, sacrifice, and woman …. Islamic Revolution has led and driven changes in social attitudes to various subjects and values so that these changes and their impacts can be clearly seen in the artworks of this period. In this paper, we have examined the traditional painters’ artworks during the Islamic Revolution. To show their intentions, and in order to enrich their artistic ideology, those traditional artists have considered the Revolutionary ideals, the supreme leader’s guidelines, and events have simultaneously taken place in Iran, and they have additionally integrated a series of elements existed in popular beliefs, Islamic precepts, principles of sharia, saying of Imam and other great revolutionary influencers into their own artistic forms. These artists intended to portray the prevailing spirituality in traditional artistic forms, whose works have always expressed and represented identity triangulated in national, Iranian and Islamic. The questions answered in this paper can be posed as follows: 1) what does identity means in the Islamic revolution’s traditional artworks? 2) What and how measures have been used to portray native elements and tradition? Having reviewed relative topics including, short history of art in the Islamic revolution, tradition definition, traditional art, identity, identity in Iranian Islamic Revolution painters’ traditional artworks has been explored.
